10 Camping Tips & Tricks I think are worth a try!

Updated: May 24, 2019

As camping season is upon us and I have a few camping trips planned, I thought I would have a look for some camping Tips, Tricks & Hacks to make camping that little bit easier

There are a lot out there so I have narrowed it down to 10 which I think are worth a try

1. Use foam floor tiles for a softer more comfortable floor

Foam floor tiles can be used to line the flooring of your tent, if you’re ‘proper’ camper and sleep on the floor these can provide a more comfortable base to sleep.

I think these would also be used as a way of protecting your ground sheet or to be used in place of a carpet if you don’t have one. Also, more comfortable to walk on.

Here are some i have found on Amazon

2. Save space by using collapsible camping gear

There are so much things you can buy for camping but sometimes its finding space to take it all with you. Using collapsible camping gear could help create more space.

You can get everything from kettles and washing up bowls to storage baskets and cups that fold flat.

3. Put an extra blanket under your air bed

Putting an extra blanket underneath your air bed to gives you more insulation and also gives your air bed that extra protection

4. Turn a Shoe Organizer into a kitchen organiser

Use an over-door shoe organiser to store all your kitchen utensils, much cheaper than the proper camping storage.

Not only can you use them to store kitchen utensils you could use them to store food, cleaning equipment or anything you like

5. Cool a can quickly with a wet sock

If your cool box is full or you don’t have one and you want a cool drink quickly, soak a thick sock in water, pop in the can and hang it out in the breeze. The Hidden heat of evaporating will cool the can in a few mins.

There’s nothing worse than a cold beer in my eyes, so if this works it will be a handy hack to know.

6. Keep tent cool with an emergency blanket

The silver coating of an emergency blanket are great for reflecting the sunlight if put on top of your tent. Tents can get pretty warm in the summer, so this could help you get a better night’s sleep and overall keep your tent cool.

7. Use Velcro fasteners – Tie guy ropes, hanging lights, Keep tent carpet in place

Guy ropes

If your tent doesn’t come with ties for your guy ropes, you will know that tangled up guy lines are a nightmare and can make putting up your tent take even longer. If you’re like me and terrible at tying in a knot it can make them tangle even more.

Using a Velcro wrap tie make sure that the ropes don’t get tangled and keep everything neat and ready for next time you put up the tent. Therefore, making pitching and packing away much more easier. Winner!

Other alternatives I think you could use are elastic bands or your regular cable ties

Hanging up lights

Another use for these could be hanging up items in your tent for example lanterns or torches

Keeping Carpet in place

You can also buy stick on Velcro pads that would be perfect for keeping your tent carpet in place and stop it from moving around

Here are some I have found on Amazon

Here is the blog post from Helpful Hikers who shared these tips plus a few extra uses for Velcro

8. Use Jumbo recycled storage bags for packing - IKEA Bags

Using Jumbo recycle storage bags for example the IKEA ones are big enough to pack things like pillows, sleeping backs etc which also means if you are packing up in the rain your things dont get wet!

9. Mark your guy ropes with solar powered stake lights

Take a few solar powered stake lights with you and use them to mark out some of the guy ropes to avoid them becoming a trip hazard in the dark.
